RADFORD, Va. – The league-leading Radford women's soccer team will host High Point in its final home match of the 2011 season on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. The program will honor its three seniors,
Maryellen Derenda (Manassas, Va./Manassas),
Lisa Lubke (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) and
Jourdan McDaniel (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) prior to the game.
The senior trio suit up for their last home match in the red and white and has combined to play in 147 games at Radford.
Radford has begun league play with a 6-0 mark, with every win coming in shutout fashion, something no other team in Big South history has accomplished. The Highlanders have also won nine of their last 10 matches to accentuate their 11-3 overall mark.
Radford carries an 8-1 record at home, which matches the Cupp Stadium for single season wins (2007). Its seven clean sheets have already broken the Cupp record and the Highlanders have only surrendered one goal at home all season. In addition to those accolades, the defense has gone 562:48 without allowing a goal.
The Highlander defense is fifth nationally in shutout percentage (.714), 22nd in winning percentage (.786), 23rd in goals-against average (.648) and 30th in save percentage (.850).
Playing in its first overtime game of the season on Saturday, Radford battled Winthrop to a 1-0 decision.
Kathryn Johnston (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) collected a loose ball in front of the goal and put home the game-winner with 34 seconds remaining in the first extra frame.
