MACIAS TABBED BIG SOUTH DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Aldo Macias (Dumfries, Va. / Edison) of the Radford men's soccer team has been named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week for games played Oct. 24-30, as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.

"Aldo has worked incredibly hard to maximize his ability as a player," said Highlander head coach Marc Reeves. “He is always prepared to play and has an exceptional intensity to compete in every game. He continually makes big plays for our team and last weeks two games against very good teams were no different."

Last week, Macias helped Radford to a win over ACC foe Virginia Tech and a tie with Gardner-Webb, who sits at No. 2 in the Big South standings.  Against the Hokies on Oct. 25, the defender keyed VT's top striker and anchored the defense to hold Virginia Tech to just two shots on goal. Four days later against Gardner-Webb, Macias blocked several GWU shot attempts and kept the Highlander defense organized as the Runnin' Bulldogs only got off three shots on frame.

"We are very happy Aldo has gained some recognition for his consistent play and am sure he would thank his teammates for a good week of solid team defending to limit two talented teams to minimal opportunities."

Macias is the fifth Highlander to receive a Big South weekly honor this season.

Radford will conclude its regular season with a pair of road contests beginning with a 4 p.m. match at Liberty on Wednesday.
