RADFORD, Va. – The “Track Spotlight” series is a weekly interview with one men's track and field student-athlete. This week features junior
Tony Brown.
Tony Brown has been a solid high jumper throughout his Highlander career. He looks to earn all-conference honors for a second consecutive year tomorrow when he competes alongside his teammates at the Big South Championships in Clemson, S.C. He already owns Radford's top high jump mark this year at 1.91m and hopes that success will carry over for yet another podium performance.
Q: Do you have a most memorable meet or a meet in which you particularly enjoy competing in?
A: I always enjoy the Akron meets. The track is very close to where my father lives and it gives him a chance to see me jump. I enjoy showing off my hard work to my family.
Q: If you could master any other event on the track or in the field, what would it be and why?
A: The triple jump would be another great event to master. As a jumper, technical work is vital to success and I have always been big on technique.
Q: Your personal best is 2.06m in the high jump set at last year's Big South Championship and you have already cracked Radford's all-time Top-10. Do you have a certain goal in mind to accomplish in your last year?
A: My goal is always going to be 2.10m (the school record). Once I shake hands with 2.10m, I would like to be introduced to 2.15m.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a part of Radford track & field?
A: My favorite part about being a part of Radford track & field is that my coaches and teammates always have my back at anything I do. It's like having a family away from home.
Q: Do you know what you want to do with your degree?
A: I want to become a physical therapist with my degree.
