RADFORD, Va. – The spring season is in full swing for Radford men's golf when it tees off in the Wendy's Charleston Shootout at the Links at Stono Ferry on Monday, Feb. 28.
The Highlanders are led by redshirt-sophomore Weston Eklund who had a 72.0 stroke average in the fall, with three top-10 performances, including a career-best runner-up finish at the Davidson Intercollegiate.
Accompanying Eklund will be senior Lane Hite, juniors Michael Wade and Paul Woodson with freshman Matt Harman. The foursome tallied a combined three top-20 showings and 14 rounds of par or better, including three rounds in the 60's so far in 2010-11.
Radford will compete this spring without Wade Wawner, the Highlanders' number three golfer in the fall, as he will be out with an injury.
"We are really excited about the spring season and continuing our solid play from the fall,” commented head coach Mike Grant. “Weston and Michael are in the top-5 in scoring in the conference and both will play a critical role this spring. With Wade being out for the spring due to injury, it will give some other guys on the team a chance to step up and contribute. Our qualifying and practice sessions have been very competitive and I believe the guys are ready to play."
The first round is slated to begin Monday, Feb. 28 and the second round follows on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
