JMU BEATS RADFORD IN BASEBALL, 12-5

BOX SCORE

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Catcher Jake Lowery went 3-for-4 with a home run and seven RBIs to lead James Madison to a 12-5 non-conference win over Radford on Tuesday afternoon.

Lowery had a home run, single and triple in his first three at-bats, and drove in seven of the 10 runs that the Dukes (8-1) scored in the first three innings.

Matt Hillsinger had the only multi-hit day for the Highlanders (3-4), going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Radford had a short-lived 3-2 lead in the second inning when Daniel Wright hit a two-run single to tie the game at 2-2. Cory Turner's sacrifice fly on the next play gave the Highlanders the brief lead.

Wright's single was the first hit of his collegiate career.

The Dukes went back ahead with two more in the second on Lowery's two-run single with two outs. JMU scored six more in the third, highlighted by Lowery's two-out bases-loaded triple, giving the Dukes a 10-3 lead.

"We were terrible in every facet of the game," head coach Joe Raccuia said.  "It was a bad, bad effort on our part and we should be embarrassed by that."

Left-handed starter Sean Tierney got the win (2-0), working two innings in a scheduled staff day for JMU. Nick Slogik added three scoreless relief innings with three strikeouts.

Cassidy McDaniel worked three scoreless relief innings for Radford, allowing one hit while striking out three. Derrick Brewer made his first start of the season and was charged with the loss (0-1).

Radford continues its 12-game road trip in the first game of the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday, a noon game against Towson.
