RADFORD, Va.
– Led by a five-RBI day from Jeff Kemp and six solid innings from right-handed starter Bobby Bolling, Radford cruised to a 22-1 rout and a series sweep of Hartford on Sunday afternoon.

Ten different players crossed the plate and nine of the 22 hits were for extra bases for Radford (9-6), which outscored the Hawks (0-7-1) 41-9 in the three-game series.

Bolling picked up the win (1-1) for Radford, tossing six scoreless innings while giving up only two hits. He struck out six and departed the game after having retired ten consecutive batters.

“It was another good start by Bobby today,” head coach Joe Raccuia said. “I noticed that our starters don't have many wins, but I guess that's going to happen with the new bats. I'm fine with the bullpen getting some wins when our starters are going 6-7 innings.

Kemp led the offensive outburst for Radford, going 4-for-4 with two doubles. Zach Costello also found a rhythm at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, including a two-run triple to left center in the bottom of the fifth that gave the Highlanders a 9-0 lead. Costello also crossed the plate four times.

Brett Mollenhauer sparked the Radford offense in the bottom of the first with a solo shot over the right field wall, his first homer of the season and the second of his career. Mollenhauer finished the day 2-for-3 and added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to score Alex Guerra and make it a 5-0 Radford lead.

Guerra added a three-run blast to right center, his first of the season, in the eighth on his way to a 3-for-5, four-RBI day.

“The first eight runs were the ones that really mattered today,” Raccuia said. “I'm even more ecstatic about the fact that we played 27 innings of error-free baseball. We're going to win a lot of games playing defense like that.”

Alex Gouin hit his second homer in as many games for the only Hartford run in the eighth. Right-handed starter Kevin Veilleux took the loss (0-2) for Hartford, which is still in search of its first win.

Radford will resume its seven-game homestand on Tuesday, hosting East Tennessee State at 4 p.m.
