HOME SOFTBALL VS. NORTH CAROLINA RAINED OUT

HIGHLANDERS HEAD TO VIRGINIA TECH ON WEDNESDAY AT 7 P.M.

RADFORD, Va. -- Radford's home contest Tuesday against North Carolina has been rained out and will not be rescheduled. The Highlanders hit the road tomorrow for an evening affair with Virginia Tech. First pitch from Tech Softball Park is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The teams met on Feb. 23 in Radford with the Hokies coming out on top, 2-0. Courtney Liddle provided all the offense with a first-inning two-run home run and Jasmin Harrell tossed a near no-hitter. The Highlanders loaded the bases in the seventh, but Kenzie Roark induced a grounder to end the game.

Radford (25-13) is coming off a three-game Big South series road sweep at Presbyterian last weekend. Radford used three strong pitching performances and timely hitting to sweep the Blue Hose and move into first place (6-2) in the standings.

The Hokies (29-11) went 1-2 last weekend in a home ACC series against first place Georgia Tech. After taking the opener 4-2 and handing the Yellow Jackets their first league loss, Virginia Tech was upended in its final two games on Sunday. Prior to the defeats, the Hokies had won 11 of 12, including eight straight.

Radford's offense broke out on Saturday against Presbyterian with a 20-hit attack in the doubleheader, including a 14-hit contest in game two. Jackie Jenkins, who was just named Big South Pitcher of the Week, tossed 12.2 innings of scoreless ball in games one and three. She concluded with a two-hit gem in the series finale.

Jenkins paces the Highlanders with an 11-1 mark and 1.13 ERA in the circle. Nichole Beall tops the offensive charts, batting .343 with eight doubles, nine home runs and 31 RBI.

Harrell is 14-4 with a 2.57 ERA and 111 strikeouts for the Hokies, while Roark is 13-6 with a 3.27 ERA and 100 punchouts. Liddle (.390) and Dani Anderson (.381) pace an offense with four batters above .300. Both have eight doubles with Liddle recording five home runs and 30 RBI. Anderson has 33 RBI and 32 runs scored.

After Wednesday's game, Radford returns to RU Softball Field for its first home conference series, hosting Coastal Carolina this weekend. The teams will square off in a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. and conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m.
