Cooper Locks Down Multiple Wins, Earns Big South Pitcher of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday afternoon that Morgan Cooper has been named Pitcher of the Week thanks to her role in a pair of tight victories for the Highlanders over ETSU and Charleston Southern.

Cooper pitched in a pair of tight outings for the Highlanders this week and was excellent, allowing just two runs in 15 innings of work for a pair of wins. In her first outing against ETSU, she left the game-winning run on third in the seventh inning to force extras before once again leaving the tying run in scoring position in the eighth to seal the 3-2 victory. Cooper then went on to help Radford seal a series win over Charleston Southern with seven innings of shutout work allowing just one hit in a tight 1-0 victory.

The weekly award is the sixth for the Highlanders this season and the third for Cooper, who has earned a single season career high Pitcher of the Week nods. Teammates Dakota Redmon and Peyton Simmons have also garnered conference weekly awards attention. It also marks the second straight season Radford has earned six weekly awards, last done so when the program earned six or more across the 2005 to 2012 seasons.

Radford is currently preparing to host their New River Valley rivals on Tuesday, April 7th. The Highlanders and nationally-ranked Hokies will play a single game with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
