SENIOR DAY CEREMONIES ON SATURDAY PRIOR TO START OF DOUBLEHEADER

RADFORD, Va. -- Due to the inclement weather in the New River Valley, the schedule for the Big South Softball series between Radford and Winthrop at RU Softball Field has been altered. Today's doubleheader will now be a single game scheduled for 6 p.m. The teams will wrap up tomorrow with a twinbill slated for 1 p.m.

Senior day ceremonies will go on as planned prior to the Saturday doubleheader.

The Highlanders (28-15, 9-2 Big South) enter the weekend with a one game lead over Liberty and two and half over Charleston Southern for the top spot in the league. The Eagles (15-28, 5-10) sit in the middle of the pack as they play their final league series of 2011.

Despite a 9-1 setback at No. 6 Tennessee on Tuesday, Radford has won six straight league games and eight of its last nine coming into this series. Winthrop picked up a 4-3 win over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday to complete the series sweep of the Bulldogs and snap a four-game slide.

In conjunction with Radford University and the American Red Cross, collection bins will be set up at RU Softball Field this weekend. Fans are asked to donate items that will help the families in need of assistance after this devastating event crippled their communities.

The teams have met 58 times and are deadlocked at 29-apiece. The Highlanders took four-of-five last season, including a 5-2 win in the Big South Championship game.

The Highlanders, who are looking to get back on track after their loss on Tuesday, are led offensively by Nichole Beall and Kristen Shifflett. Beall is batting .355 with 13 doubles, nine home runs, 36 RBI and 29 runs scored, all team bests. Shifflett has been getting back into a groove as her average has climbed to .333 with six doubles and 18 RBI. Taylor Cunningham is at a .290 clip with 10 doubles and 16 RBI.

Jackie Jenkins, who improved to 13-2 with a pair of wins over Coastal Carolina last weekend, is posting a 1.20 ERA with 31 strikeouts and five shutouts, while holding opponents to a .228 batting average. She has allowed just one earned run in league play over the last 39.1 innings. Stephanie Dameron enters the weekend with a 11-4 record and 2.14 ERA. She has walked an NCAA low six batters in 101.1 innings of work and recorded a staff high 37 strikeouts.

Chelsea Schoenfeldt leads the charge in both the batters box and the pitching circle for the Eagles. She is batting .402 with 12 doubles, six home runs and 26 RBI. On the other side, she sports a 8-11 record and 3.54 ERA in a team-high 124.2 innings of work. There will also be a familiar face in the Winthrop dugout as former Highlander standout Michelle Carlson is in her first year as an assistant for the Eagles.

Radford's senior class of Cunningham, Shifflett, Shannon Keefe, Chelsea Kelley, Kellie Snooks and Lauren Williams will be recognized prior to start of doubleheader.
