RADFORD BASEBALL TAKES SERIES FROM PRESBYTERIAN WITH 3-2 WIN

BOX SCORE

CLINTON, S.C.
– Radford closer Abram Williams escaped a bases-loaded, none out jam in the eighth, then worked a scoreless ninth to earn a two-inning save and lead the Highlanders to a 3-2 win over Presbyterian College on Sunday afternoon.

Right-handed starter Bobby Bolling picked up the win (3-2) for Radford (16-11, 2-4 Big South), which took two of three games from the Blue Hose (17-11, 4-5). Bolling tossed seven scoreless innings, surrendered six hits, walked two and struck out four.

“Basically today was the same scenario as yesterday, but this time we made enough pitches and Bobby Bolling gave us seven solid innings,” head coach Joe Raccuia said. “Abram came in and he was very good with his breaking ball. You have to learn this day in age how to win baseball games and we won this one in the back third. We beat a very solid baseball team.”

Matt Mack led the Highlanders at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two third-inning RBIs. Matt Hillsinger also went 2-for-4 with an RBI, extending his hitting streak to a team-best 11 games.

Williams entered the game in the eighth after Presbyterian's Brad Zebedis cut to the Radford lead to two, 3-1, with his third hit of the game when he doubled down the left field line, scoring Andrew Williams. Abram Williams retired two batters before Gabe Grammer's chopper ten feet from the plate brought home Mack Hite from third to make it 3-2. On the next play, Williams got a groundball out to end the threat.

Zebedis, the Big South's leading hitter, went 4-for-5 for Presbyterian. Grammer was 2-for-4.

Blake Sipe got the scoring started in the third when he laid down a two-out bunt base hit and advanced to second on a throwing error. Hillsinger came to the plate and sent a single to left field that tailed to the foul line, scoring Sipe and putting the Highlanders up 1-0. Radford made it a 3-0 lead three batters later when Mack lined a single up the middle, scoring Hillsinger and Jeff Kemp, who executed a double steal on the previous pitch.

Jordan Pace went the distance but took the loss (3-2), giving up three runs on five hits.

Radford continues its stretch of ten straight on the road at top-ranked Virginia on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
