GARDNER-WEBB SWEEPS BASEBALL WITH 12-2 WIN IN FINALE

BOX SCORE

RADFORD, Va.
– Eight solid innings by right-hander Emilio Pagan, 11 hits, and big innings in the third and eighth helped Gardner-Webb to a 12-2 win and a series sweep of Radford on Sunday afternoon.

Ryan Burgess continued his 14-game hitting streak for the Highlanders (25-18, 10-8 Big South), going 2-for-4 with an RBI double. Radford was swept for the first time since its Big South series at Charleston Southern in March.

“This weekend we got beat by a team that was better than us, this weekend,” head coach Joe Raccuia said. “We didn't play well enough to win any of these games – they did. We'll re-groupand rebound, it's a disappointing end to the weekend for us. It's a long season, and there's a lot of season left.”

Pagan picked up the win (3-1) and allowed only one run on three hits, while striking out five for the Runnin' Bulldogs (28-13-1, 12-9), who won their eighth straight game. Pagan retired 12 straight before giving way to Adam Izokovic in the ninth. The last hit Pagan allowed was Burgess's leadoff single in the second inning.

Dusty Quattlebaum delivered for the Runnin' Bulldogs offensively for the third straight game. Quattlebaum went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and came up clutch in the third inning for Gardner-Webb when he hit a bases-clearing double with two outs, making it 3-1 and giving the Runnin' Bulldogs a lead that they didn't surrender.

Gardner-Webb scored 12 unanswered runs following the Quattlebaum double. Adam McFarland, who went 2-for-5 and had three RBIs, drove in two of Gardner Webb's six runs in the eighth off of a double to right field.

Bobby Bolling took the loss (5-3), allowing three earned runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.

The Highlanders are off for exams until Friday, when they head to Coastal Carolina for a three game series.
