CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Radford, 8-0 in the first game and 15-0 in the second game on Saturday.
The Chanticleers improved to 32-15 overall and 16-4 in the Big South with the wins, while Radford fell to 25-20 and 10-10.
In the first game, Coastal right-handed starter Anthony Meo racked up a career-high 12 strikeouts over eight innings, limiting the Highlanders to just three hits. The Chanticleers grabbed a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer in the third inning by Scott Woodward, his fourth of the season and got another run in the fourth before five in the eighth opened up the game.
Eddie Butler pitched effectively through seven innings for the Highlanders, before running into trouble in the eighth. Butler took just his second loss (6-2) of the season.
In the second game, Coastal piled up 21 hits with a five-run fourth, and a six-run seventh. Keith Hardwick got the Chanticleers on the board with a two-run homer in the second, his fourth of the year. Tommy LaStella hit his league-leading 11th homer of the season in the seventh, a two-run blast, and Taylor Motter added a two-run home run later in the inning.
Josh Conway worked five scoreless innings on the way to the win (7-1), leading five Coastal Carolina pitchers in the combined shutout effort.
Game three of the series has been moved up to a noon start, with the potential for foul weather.
