CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina did all of its scoring from the second through sixth innings and got two Rich Witten homers en route to a 10-0 win and a Big South series sweep of Radford.
Matt Hillsinger had three of Radford's (25-21, 10-11 Big South) four hits – the Highlanders were shut out in all three games of the series and in three straight games for the first time in the history of the program.
Witten went 2-for-4, hit a solo homer in the third inning to give Coastal (33-15, 17-4) a 3-0 lead, then hit a grand slam in the fourth to make it an 8-0 game. Daniel Bowman got the Chanticleers on the board with a solo home run in the second inning, tying him with the league lead with 11 for the season.
Matt Rein went five scoreless innings for the win (7-2) – Coastal pitchers have thrown 37 straight scoreless innings dating back to their second series game with VMI last Saturday.
The Highlanders committed five errors, a season high, in the loss. Right-hander Bobby Bolling took his third loss of the season (5-3).
Radford will try and snap a six-game slide on Tuesday, in a doubleheader with Marshall at 6 p.m. The teams will play a pair of seven inning games in Beckley, W.Va. at Linda K. Epling Stadium.
