RADFORD, Va. – Entering his second season at the helm, Radford head men's soccer coach
Marc Reeves announced his 2011 incoming class Tuesday, which features 11 student-athletes, including nine from the state of Virginia.
“It was very important for us to attract the right type of individuals and players that fit our program goals here at Radford University,” commented to Reeves. “We believe this group has some very solid players that will impact the upcoming fall and also build on the future stability of our program.”
“Since we got to Radford last year we have worked very hard in trying to reach out to all areas of Virginia and beyond. Maciek (Sliwinski) has a real passion that attracts dedicated and hard-working players, and this group has many qualities we needed to boost the program and replace the seniors. With the timing of taking the job last year, and roster we inherited we needed this to be a larger class. These guys will raise competition standards in practice as our group looks to improve on a daily basis. Like all players, they will have to work hard to prove their value and earn minutes, but the talent is certainly there. We are finalizing a couple of International players that will add to this group, but are truly happy with this incoming class and look forward to the 2011 fall season.”
In 2010, Radford went undefeated at home for the first time in school history, while advancing to the Big South semifinals.
In addition to their mark at Cupp Stadium, four Highlanders earned all-conference honors last fall, including returnees
Iyiola Awosika (London, England / Aylesbury Grammar),
Bernardo Ulmo (Sao Paulo, Brazil / South Kent) and
Luis Grande (Caracas, Venezuela / U.E. Colegio Los Arcos).
James Leith (Herndon, Va. / Oakton), who graduated in the spring, was also named to the all-league team in 2010.
