RADFORD, Va. – Ramzi Dridi (Falls Church, Va. / JEB Stuart)' s golden-goal in the 95th minute lifted Radford to a 2-1 exhibition win over Lees McRae in men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Cupp Stadium.
"This was a good opportunity for us to look at many players in a solid first exhibition game," said second-year head coach
Marc Reeves. "Some guys showed well and built more trust from the staff and teammates, while others found the step up in pace of the college game tougher."
Dridi's strike from the top of the 18-yard box to the lower near corner, came off an assist from fellow freshman
Andreas Dahl (Skara, Sweden / SvenEriksson Academy).
Bernardo Ulmo (Sao Paulo, Brazil / South Kent), who was named to the Big South All-Freshman squad a year ago, put the Highlanders up 1-0 with a penalty kick.
The kick was awarded after Ulmo was shoved from behind following a good ball into the box off a feed from sophomore
Luis Grande (Caracas, Venezuela / U.E. Colegio Los Arcos).
Lees McRae's only goal of the contest came late in the second period to force overtime.
"We have a great deal to improve on in all areas and need to have a stronger competitive spirit in practices this week and build a better understanding as a team."
The Highlanders will conclude their preseason slate with a 2 p.m. contest against ACC foe Wake Forest Tuesday at Cupp Stadium.
