LIVE STATS
RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team opens up a season-long four-game home stand with two 7 p.m. contests slated for Friday and Sunday against Francis Marion and East Tennessee State.
A number of Highlanders are at the top of the Big South rankings through the first week. Sophomore
Julie Ruh'e (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) leads the league in goals (2) and points (5), courtesy of her career-high evening against the Knights. Senior goalkeeper
Lisa Lubke (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) also finds herself at the top of the saves chart with 11.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
Francis Marion enters the second all-time meeting with Radford at 1-2 overall and return six starters from a squad that went 3-13-2 last year. After a season-opening loss to UNC Wilmington, 2-0, the Patriots countered to defeat preseason Big South favorite High Point, 2-1. In that game, Yasmin Bunter scored off a throw in early and would return to tally the game-winning assist of Elizabeth Asare's strike in the 59th. Campbell would then defeat the Patriots 3-0 on Wednesday night.
SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS
First-year head coach Adam Sayers leads ETSU into Radford for the 13th all-time meeting (5-5-2) between the two programs. Much like Radford, the Bucs' backline consists of four underclassmen. Leading the way in preseason with six of eight points scored were freshmen Jenna Caudle and Taylor Maxson, both coming against Big South competition (Campbell and Presbyterian). In the season-opener, the Bucs lost 2-1 at Wofford and will host Tennessee Tech on Friday before coming to Cupp Stadium on Sunday.
LAST WEEK
In the season opener, the Highlanders netted eight goals on 14 shots on goal en route to an 8-0 rout of Southern Virginia.
Rachel Conway (Kitchener, Ontario/Forest Heights Collegiate) and
Victoria Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) also contributed two assists apiece, each becoming a new career-high. In the first road game of the season, Radford battled but endured a 4-0 setback against No. 8 Ohio State. Lubke tallied 11 saves in her homecoming.
