RADFORD, Va. - The Radford women's soccer team is set to host Alabama A&M at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Highlanders' only contest of the weekend.
Last year in Huntsville, Ala., a number of Highlanders had career highs.
Krissia Vasquez (Bowie, Md./St. John's Collegiate) tallied her first multi-goal game,
Megan Rhodes (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) scored her first career goal and
Kathryn Johnston (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) posted her first collegiate goal against the Bulldogs in a 6-0 victory. Vasquez also assisted on
Mary Wiley's (Radford, Va./Radford) goal just four minutes into the match.
Entering Friday, Alabama A&M is 0-3 overall and has been outscored 31-0. The Bulldogs fell to Austin Peay 14-0, Kennesaw State 8-0 and South Florida 9-0 thus far. The first meeting between the two programs dates back to 2004, with Radford holding the series control, 2-1, and have outscored the Bulldogs 11-3.
Depth has become a contributing factor for Radford, as 24 players have seen game action and 17 have recorded at least one shot. The Highlanders are led in scoring with two goals apiece by
Julie Ruh'e (Monrovia, Md./Urbana),
Chesea Hayes (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) and Wiley.
The Highlanders also lead the Big South in shots (54), goals (10) and corners (21).
