RADFORD, Va. –
Radford women's soccer posted three goals, two in the second half, to take a non-conference triumph over Tennessee Tech, 3-1, Sunday afternoon.

The three goals were the most scored against the Golden Eagles (2-5-1) since their first-ever meeting, a 3-2 overtime win, in 1999.

16 minutes into the match, freshman Alayna Henby (Fairfax Station, Va./Paul VI) put away her first career goal to give Radford (4-2) the 1-0 advantage when she collected a loose ball in the six-yard box.

In the second half, Maryellen Derenda's (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) attempt in the 61st hit off the far-side post and found Mary Wiley (Radford, Va./Radford) uncovered, who buried a shot past the diving Golden Eagles' keeper to make the score 2-1.

“People who worked off the ball today scored and benefited from great passes and teamwork,” commented Wiley.

Sahar Aflaki (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) sent a pass in front of the goal and found Annabel Bergin (Vienna, Va./James Madison) in the 70th minute, who also recorded her first collegiate goal and capped the scoring for the game.

“I liked the way we played today as a team,” mentioned head coach Ben Sohrabi.  “All three lines worked extremely hard and I'm excited about going into Longwood and Old Dominion this weekend.

Tech got on the scoreboard in the 67th minute off a long, far-side cross from Taylor Hicks to Kris Cambron, but couldn't counter Radford's relentless attack.

Radford controlled the offensive side of the field, outshooting the Golden Eagles, 17-4, and held the edge in corner kicks, 8-0.

In just her second start of the season, Che' Brown (Manassas Park, Va./Manassas Park) picked up the win for Radford while her counterpart Toler made five saves in the loss.

The Highlanders wrap-up non-conference action this weekend with road contests at Longwood Sept. 16 and Old Dominion Sept. 18.
