GWANZURA TABBED BIG SOUTH ATTACKING PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two days after netting Radford's first hat trick since 2007, Brian Gwanzura (Harare, Zimbabwe / Harare) of the men's soccer team has been named Big South Attacking Player of the Week as announced by the Conference office Tuesday afternoon.
“Brian obviously was a major part of the team's successful weekend,” commented Radford head coach Marc Reeves. His goals (especially on Sunday) were all well taken and scored in a variety of ways. Brian has worked incredibly hard to become a better player in all areas since the time we arrived at Radford. He must continue to play well on both sides of the ball and further develop his game to have an impact on each and every game he plays.”
In addition to his three-goal performance in the Highlanders' 3-0 blanking of Stony Brook, Gwanzura struck first in his club's 5-1 win over St. Bonaventure on Friday. For the weekend, the senior midfielder finished with eights shots, six of which were on frame and four goals, while leading Radford to the Flash Gordon Motors Invitational crown on the campus of High Point University.
“Brian is a great young man and we are truly happy when he gets this type of recognition. Our whole team deserves credit for two good results against solid opponents but we cannot be happy as we have a great deal of work to do if we want to achieve anything of real value.”
Radford is in the midst of a nine-day break before traveling to Virginia for a 7 p.m. contest September 20.
