RADFORD, Va.
The Radford women's soccer team begins the quest to defend its 2010 Big South regular season crown when league play opens up Thursday against Presbyterian and UNC Asheville on Saturday at Cupp Stadium. 
 
The matchup with Presbyterian will only be the fifth all-time, with Radford holding the slight edge 2-1-1.  Against UNC Asheville, Radford holds a commanding lead at 17-6-2, which includes five straight wins and a 8-2-1 mark at home. 
 
The Highlanders (5-3) recorded a historic win at Longwood, the program's first-ever victory in Farmville last weekend.  Sophomore forward Julie Ruh'e (Monrovia, Md./Urbana), who was recently tabbed the top player in the Big South according to Top Drawer Soccer, scored the winning goal in the 79th minute, her fourth career game-winner.  She is currently tied for third amongst league leaders in goals scored.
 
SCOUTING THE BLUE HOSE
Presbyterian (2-7) is led in scoring by six different players with a goal apiece while goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson is coming off a Big South Defensive Player of the Week distinction for her shutout against The Citadel.  Her first save of the game gave her the all-time career saves record at Presbyterian.
 
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
UNC Asheville (1-8) opened the season with six straight losses, with their lone win coming against South Carolina State, 5-1.  Defensively, goalkeeper Heather Muller has a league-high 61 saves.  Leading the offensive attack with three goals apiece are senior midfielder Leilani Halkiotis and sophomore Amanda Knapp.  Knapp also has a team-best three assists.  The Bulldogs will head to Lexington, Va. on Thursday to face VMI before Saturday's matchup with the Highlanders.
