VEATCH CLAIMS WEIGHT THROW TITLE ON DAY ONE OF LIBERTY OPEN


RESULTS (DAY ONE)

LYNCHBURG, Va. Senior Aimee Veatch picked up her first weight throw title of the season to cap the first day of track and field action in the Liberty Open on Friday.
 
Veatch's throw, tops in the Big South this year, reached a distance of 18.17m / 59-07.50, while out-throwing the runner-up by more than four feet.  In the same event, Sharee Fitzgerald placed sixth with a personal-best toss of 14.60m / 47-11.00. 
 
Current heptathlon school-record holder Phillip Hovatter and freshman Travis Hudson each had solid showings over the first four events in multi's.  Hovatter took first in his section with 2,641 points, while Hudson racked up 2,612.  Overall, Hovatter and Hudson sit in second and third place, respectively.
 
Hovatter highlighted his day by taking first in his section in the high jump with a height of 1.88m / 6-02.00, a personal-best leap.
 
Kaleice Green represented the Radford women in the pentathlon and took first place in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 10.37m / 34-00.25.  Over the five events, she recorded 2,210 points.

The final day of competition comes on Saturday.
