ALOHA STATE AND BIG SOUTH TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHT 2012 SOFTBALL SLATE

RADFORD, Va. – A trip to the Aloha State and hosting the 2012 Big South Tournament highlight Radford's 2012 softball schedule, announced sixth-year head coach Mickey Dean. In addition, the Highlanders have 24 home games, which includes ACC foes North Carolina and Virginia Tech and four contests as part of the Radford Invitational.

The non-conference slate also features road contests at Tennessee and Virginia, home matchups against Appalachian State, Longwood and UNC Greensboro and a tournament at Georgia Southern, which is highlighted by a game against Super Regional participant Kentucky.

Following early season road games against in-state rivals the Hokies and James Madison sandwiched around the Georgia Southern Invitational, the Highlanders leave the mainland for Spring Break to participate in two tournaments hosted by the University of Hawai'i.

In the three-day Bank of Hawai'i Invitational Radford faces the host Rainbow Wahine, Florida State and UC Santa Barbara. The ensuing weekend at the Pepsi Malahini Kipa Aloha Tournament, the Highlanders take on Southern Illinois, Robert Morris and Marist in a four-day tourney.

When Radford returns, the Highlanders will lace up at home for the first time in 2012, hosting Lehigh and Binghamton in the two-day Radford Invitational on March 17 and 18.

After a mixture (20 home/15 away) of non-conference and league games, the Highlanders will enjoy the comforts of home for the 2012 Big South Tournament from May 11-13 at RU Softball Field. It will be the third time hosting and the first since 2009 when Radford won its first Big South Championship.

Radford's contest at Virginia Tech will be its season-opener on Feb. 14 at 3 p.m.
