LEXINGTON, Va. – Chel Ho Park Kim (61') and James Jordan ('69) scored second half goals less than nine minutes apart, leading Radford to a 2-0 win over VMI on Wednesday and a fifth straight Big South men's soccer victory.
The Highlanders (7-2-3, 5-0-0 Big South) matched their best league start since 2005 with the win, and are unbeaten over their last six outings.
Ryan Taylor made three saves in goal to earn his fourth shutout of the season and the 12th of his career.
Radford had a 14-4 shot advantage in the first half, including four opportunities on frame, but had nothing to show for it. However, the Highlanders outshot the Keydets (1-9-1, 0-4-1) 5-1 in the first 25 minutes of the second half en route to both goals.
Park Kim took advantage of a chance early in the second half to get the Highlanders on the board. A ball played into the middle was mishandled by VMI goalkeeper Taylor Feuerstein and found the feet of Park Kim, who finished to score his fourth goal of the season and second in as many games.
A corner kick 8:02 later led to Radford's second goal. Jannik Eckenrode's service found Jordan in the penalty area – Jordan had to dive to his right, but got a clean header off and scored to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.
Radford shut down VMI the rest of the way to preserve the win – the Keydets had just one shot over the final 20 minutes, and Taylor stopped an opportunity when Aaron White's header shot got to the goal in the 82nd minute.
The Highlanders outshot VMI 7-2 in the second half and finished the match with a 21-6 shot tally.
Feuerstein played the first 65:45 in goal for the Keydets and made five saves.
Radford continues its four-game stretch away from home on Saturday afternoon at UNC Asheville at 2:30 p.m.
