MEN'S SOCCER LOOKS TO EXTEND UNBEATEN STREAK AT ASHEVILLE

Radford aims to keep a six-match unbeaten streak alive and tie the program's best-ever conference start on Saturday when the Highlanders meet UNC Asheville in a 2:30 p.m. contest.
 
With the 15 points in the standings that Radford (7-2-3, 5-0-0 Big South) has earned, the Highlanders are tied with 12th-ranked Coastal Carolina for first place in the Big South.  Radford and Coastal are five points up on 23rd-ranked High Point, which sits in third place.
 
GREAT BEGINNINGS
With five straight victories to begin league play, the Highlanders have matched their best record to open the season since 2005.  Below is a listing of Big South-opening win streaks:

HIGHLANDER NOTES

  • Following Wednesday's win at VMI, Radford ranks among the Big South's leaders at both ends of the field – the Highlanders are third in the league in total goals (25), fourth in goals per match (2.08) and third in goals-against average (0.85)
  • Radford's goals-per-game total ranked 20th among NCAA Division I teams (201 total) entering the week
  • Bernardo Ulmo, the reigning Big South Attacking Player of the Week, had his stretch of goal scoring stopped at nine tallies over nine games 
  • Ulmo has nine goals this season, tied for the most in the Big South and the sixth-most in NCAA Division I entering the week
  • Chel Ho Park Kim, who scored his fourth goal of the season on Wednesday, has a streak of four straight matches with a point (4g, 3a) and has four goals in as many contests entering the weekend
  • Radford has outscored its opponents 14-2 over the last four outings – the Highlanders have a goal differential of plus-14 this season (25 for, 11 against)
  • The Highlanders have outshot their opponents 78-27 over the last four matches and have only allowed 13 shots on frame over that period

THE MATCHUP
  • Radford has a 22-9-1 series lead against the Bulldogs (1-12-0, 0-6-0), dating back to the 1984 season
  • The series has been marked by visiting team wins over the last three meetings – last season (Oct. 1), Asheville handed Radford its first home loss in the Marc Reeves era (2010-pres.), a 1-0 defeat despite a 12-3 shooting advantage for the Highlanders
  • Radford has won two straight matches in Asheville heading into Saturday

UP NEXT
Big South play continues on Wednesday, when the Highlanders travel to No. 23 High Point.  If the Panthers remain in the Top-25, they will be Radford's first nationally-ranked opponent this season.
