RADFORD AND LONGWOOD PLAY TO SCORELESS DRAW

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. – Junior Che' Brown made three big second half saves as Radford and Longwood played to a scoreless draw in a Big South women's soccer clash, Thursday evening from Cupp Memorial Stadium. It was the first draw in nine meetings between these two squads.

Brown finished with six saves for her eighth shutout of the season as the Highlanders (10-2-3, 6-0-3 Big South) extended their undefeated streak to 12 matches. Her counterpart, Kyra Byron made five saves, all after halftime to earn the clean sheet for the Lancers (11-5-1, 6-2-1).

Radford entered the evening tied for first with High Point. The draw, coupled with the Panthers' (23 points) win at Charleston Southern, moved the Highlanders (21 points) into second place, two points behind HPU. Longwood (19 points) remained in third, two points behind the Highlanders.

The first half saw 10 shots, seven by Longwood, and no dangerous scoring opportunities by either squad.

In the second half, Brown came up big early on and late to keep the Lancers off the board. She stopped Kelsey Pardue point blank from eight yards out and saved Pardue's rebound attempt. Brown came up big again with just under 10 minutes to play in regulation when she pushed a high hard shot by Olivia Colella over the bar.

Radford's best opportunity during regulation came in the 74th minute when junior Sahar Aflaki got behind the defense, but whizzed her shot over the crossbar.

In the second overtime, junior Sydney Golden nearly caught Byron off guard with an attempt just inside the midfield stripe. However, the one-bounce rocket was tipped over the woodwork by Byron. Byron also made two more saves to keep Radford off the board.

The Lancers outshot the Highlanders, 27-19 and held and 10-6 advantage in corner kicks. Pardue paced Longwood with a game-high five shots, while senior Mary Wiley charted four shots for Radford.

Radford heads to Liberty on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Lady Flames. The Lancers return home and host VMI on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
