RADFORD, Va. – After nearly a month in between tournaments, Radford men's golf travels to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for the ODU/OBX Invitational to be contested Sunday-Tuesday at the par 72, 6,535-yard Kilmarlic Golf Club.
In the Highlanders' last outing, the Joe Agee Invitational, the squad posted a runner-up finish falling one stroke shy of team champion High Point. Leading the RU charge was junior Callum Tarren's career-best 54-hole ledger of 6-under-par 207 (64-70-73).
It was quite a tournament for the Darlington, England native as Tarren recorded his highest-ever finish in a collegiate event (second). Furthermore, Tarren's first-round 7-under-par 64 was a new Williamsburg Club record. He will be playing in the No. 2 spot this week.
Playing in the top spot for Radford will be Weston Eklund, who is having an outstanding senior campaign. The Charlottesville, Va. native, who is the 47th-ranked golfer in the nation by Golfstat and tops the Big South in stroke average, finished one shot behind Tarren at the Joe Agee Invitational to chart a third-place finish (the eighth Top-5 showing of his career). Of his six rounds this season, Eklund has carded five under-par rounds (the other round was an even-par 72).
Freshman Conner Hayden will tee-off at No. 3 after posting a career-best 32nd-place performance in Williamsburg. Hayden has shot in the 70s each of his six rounds this fall. Making their second starts of the season are Matt Harman and Tanner Carbaugh, playing in the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
Joining the Highlanders and tournament host Old Dominion in the 18-team field will be Delaware, Drake, Drexel, Elon, George Mason, George Washington, Georgia Southern, Hartford, Hofstra, James Madison, Longwood, Loyola, Marshall, Richmond, St. Bonaventure and VCU. The teams will begin action Saturday with a practice round.
Kilmarlic Golf Club is a popular Tom Steele design that played host to the prestigious North Carolina Open in 2004 and 2009, and began hosting the ODU/OBX Invitational in 2010.
The first round gets underway Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with teams going off holes No. 1 and No. 10. Live scoring will be provided by Golfstat and can be viewed by clicking here.
