MEN'S SOCCER PLAYS NO. 25 HIGH POINT TO A SCORELESS TIE

BOX SCORE HIGH POINT, N.C. – Scoring chances were limited – both teams combined for just five shots on goal over 110 minutes – as Radford and No. 25 High Point played to a 0-0 tie in Big South men's soccer action on Saturday night.

However, by virtue of the positive result, the Highlanders (8-2-4, 6-0-1 Big South) are off to their best start in Big South play in the program's history, remaining unbeaten over the first seven league games.

"This was a fast paced, hard fought game and I thought we prepared and played well tonight," head coach Marc Reeves said.  "We had some great individual performances, but most importantly did well as a team defensively to limit a quality attacking side."

Ryan Taylor made two first half saves, earning his fifth shutout of the season for Radford.

The Highlanders outshot High Point (11-2-2, 4-1-1) 13-10, including 8-5 in the second half with two shots on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net.

"Both teams had some good chances to win it in a tight game," Reeves said.  "We need to be just a little better at key moments in the final third of the field."

Midway through the first half, Radford began to land some scoring opportunities – a Stephen Hudgens shot was blocked in the 18th minute, before Dario Redondo's attempt a minute later was stopped by High Point goalkeeper Kody Palmer, leading to a corner kick.  The Highlanders were unable to capitalize, however.

Both of High Point's shots on frame, and both of Taylor's saves, came in the final 20 minutes of the first half.   Shane Malcolm had shots in the 28th and 33rd minutes that were stopped by Taylor, preserving a 0-0 tie before halftime.

Following halftime, Radford came out of the break and outshot the Panthers 4-1 over the first 14 minutes of the second half, but couldn't land an attempt on goal.

Perhaps the best scoring chance came in the 72nd minute, as a Chel Ho Park Kim shot got past Palmer, but it was cleared off the goal line by High Point's defense to keep the match scoreless.  That play led to a subsequent corner kick and shot by James Jordan, but the Highlanders still couldn't find the back of the goal.

Jamie Summers put a shot on frame in the 89th minute, but Palmer made a late save to send the match to overtime.

Chances were equal in overtime – High Point outshot the Highlanders 2-1 in the extra sessions.  Neither team had a shot on goal.

Radford plays its final non-conference match on Tuesday night at Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.
