HIGHLANDERS CRUISE PAST VMI, 6-0, ON SENIOR NIGHT

RADFORD, Va. – Radford received goals from five different players as it cruised to a 6-0 victory over VMI on senior night, Tuesday evening at Cupp Stadium. With the victory, the Highlanders (11-2-4, 7-0-4) extended their undefeated streak to a new school record 14 matches and finished tied for second in the regular season standings with 25 points.

Radford earned the tiebreaker for the second seed and will host seventh-seeded Campbell on Saturday, Oct. 27 in the first round of the Big South Tournament. The match will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. from Cupp Stadium.
 
The Highlanders also finish undefeated in conference play for just the second time in program history, the last was in 1999 when they went 6-0.
 
Sophomore Kara Nay netted two goals to move her season total to six, matching two other teammates for team-best honors. Senior Krissia Vasquez, junior Sahar Aflaki, sophomore Annabel Bergin and freshman Asyia Mitchell also scored for the Highlanders.
 
Junior Che' Brown made four saves to post her 10th shutout as the Highlanders recorded their 11th clean sheet of the season. Both marks are the second highest shutout totals in a single season. Radford has allowed just one goal over its last seven matches (690+ minutes).
 
Radford applied significant offensive pressure in the first half and took a 2-0 lead into the break. It could have been more, but VMI keeper Mackenzie Harrmann held her ground, making seven of her 11 saves in the first 45 minutes for the Keydets (1-16, 0-11).
 
Aflaki put Radford on the board in the 23rd minute. Following an long accurate punt by Brown, senior Mary Wiley flicked the ball to an on-rushing Alfaki, who finished from 10 yards for her third score of the season.
 
Mitchell made it 2-0, poking home her own rebound after being fed from the wing by sophomore Caitlin Annear.
 
After the break, Nay doubled Radford's lead to 4-0 with a pair of strikes 1:43 apart in the 49th and 51st minute. The first tally was set up by a long through ball from junior Rachel Conway.
 
Bergin and Vasquez, closed out the scoring for the Highlanders'. It was Bergin's first and Vasquez's second of the season, respectively. Freshman Shannon Nasca and sophomore Cate Weaver set up the scores by Bergin and Vasquez, respectively.


Radford generated a season-high in shots as it held a 36-9 advantage over VMI. Wiley and Mitchell paced the Highlanders with eight and seven shots, respectively. Liz Affronti charted a team-best three shots for the Keydets.
 
Prior to the match, the women's soccer program and Radford Athletics honored the 2012 senior class of Megan Rhodes, Vasquez and Wiley.
