WOMEN'S SOCCER HOSTS CAMPBELL IN BIG SOUTH QUARTERFINAL ON SATURDAY


RADFORD, Va. - Coming off an undefeated conference regular season and riding a 14-match unbeaten streak, Radford hosts Campbell in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Big South Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m. from Cupp Stadium. After tying Longwood for second with 25 points, the Highlanders (11-2-4, 7-0-4 Big South) earned the second seed by virtue of its tie with High Point. The Camels (10-7-1, 5-6) finished seventh with 15 points.

Being a Big South sponsored event, admission to Saturday's contest is as follows: general admission for adults is $5, ages 11 and under is $3; children 5 and under are free; Radford University students with proper student ID are free; students without an ID are $1.

A LOOK AT RU: The Highlanders closed out the season with a bang, celebrating senior night with a 6-0 victory over VMI on Tuesday… Five different Highlanders scored, led by Kara Nay's two-goal effort… RU recorded its 11th shutout overall and it was the 10th for Che' Brown (4 saves), both tying for the second best single-season marks in program history… Radford finished league play undefeated for just the second time in school history (1999/6-0)… The Highlanders have allowed just one goal over the last seven matches (690-plus minutes)… Nay, Rachel Conway and Julie Ruh'e pace the squad with six goals… Mary Wiley has dished out a team-best seven assists… Brown owns a league-best, 0.66 GAA, .857 save percentage and 10 shutouts.

A LOOK AT CU: The Camels are coming off a 2-0 defeat at home on Tuesday against regular season champion High Point… The offense is paced by Ashley Clark with 10 goals and 23 points, ranking fourth and tied for third, respectively, in the Big South… Michelle Procaccini has distributed a team-best five assists… In goal, Ryann Torrero has played 1127 minutes with a 1.20 GAA and a .815 save percentage… However, Alexis Conners has started the last four matches, since entering 25 minutes into the previous match against Longwood (10/11)

THE SERIES: The Highlanders own a 5-2 lead in the series… With the regular season win, Radford is 3-0 against Campbell at Cupp Stadium… RU is 1-0 in the Big South Tournament defeating the Camels, 1-0, in the 2011 Big South Championship match.

REGULAR SEASON: Radford topped Campbell, 3-0, on Sept. 22 at Cupp StadiumSahar Aflaki, Kim Harkins and Megan Rhodes found the back of the net and Che' Brown made five saves.
 
TOURNAMENT HISTORY: The Highlanders start the defense of their 2011 Championship on Saturday…. Won last year with a 1-0 victory over its first-round opponent, Campbell… RU also defeated UNC Asheville in penalty kicks and Liberty 5-1 on its way to a fourth conference title… 15-11-5 all-time and 14-9-4 under Ben Sohrabi… 6-1-1 as the No. 2 seed, winning the 2002 and the 2008 championships… The Highlanders are 1-2-1 in Radford and 0-1 at Cupp Stadium (1-0 loss to Gardner-Webb in 2010).

UP NEXT: The winner of this contest will play the winner of the match between No. 3 Longwood and No. 6 Liberty on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m… The semifinals and championship are being held at Eagle Field on the campus of Winthrop University.
