MEN'S SOCCER CRUISES TO 3-0 WIN OVER LONGWOOD

BOX SCORE FARMVILLE, Va. – Bernardo Ulmo's eighth goal in as many games and a 12-0 shot advantage through the first 70 minutes set the tone in Radford's 3-0 win over Longwood on Tuesday night in Big South men's soccer action.

The Highlanders (5-2-3, 3-0 Big South) picked up their third league win in a row and a fourth straight positive result.  Jannik Eckenrode (53') and Ramzi Dridi (78') added second half tallies to seal the victory.

Ryan Taylor needed to make only one second half save to earn his 11th career shutout – the Lancers (3-8-1, 2-6-1) didn't have their first shot until the 69:40 mark.

For the match, the Highlanders outshot Longwood 13-5.

“This was a solid and professional display on the road against a strong Big South opponent," head coach Marc Reeves said.  "We started the game well and were organized defensively to limit their chances the first half.  We still need to do a better job on the attacking side and continue to share the ball with good team decisions. We did score a couple of good goals and the energy of the group was very pleasing.”

Ulmo, who entered the week ranked 12th in the nation in goals, got Radford on the board 4:03 into the match when the Highlanders were awarded a penalty kick.  For Ulmo, the penalty kick conversion was his second in three matches.

In the first half the Highlanders put six of their seven shots on frame – Longwood goalkeeper Paul Hegedus was forced to make four saves.  Midway through the half, Radford had a pair of good scoring chances - in the 23rd minute a Stephen Hudgens shot was cleared off the line by Longwood's Sam Yardley.   Just 16 seconds later, Matt Janssen rang the crossbar on a shot attempt.

Eckenrode had two early opportunities in the second half – Hegedus made the save on a shot in the 47th, but Eckenrode found the net for his first career goal five minutes later on a shot into the left corner off a pass from Chel Ho Park Kim.  Park Kim picked up his fourth assist of the season on the play.

Hegedus played the first 68:45 and finished with five saves for Longwood.

Ulmo earned his first assist later in the half on Dridi's third goal in two matches.  Dridi got free in the 78th minute on the left side of the penalty area and buried a shot to extend Radford's lead to 3-0.

The Highlanders will look to extend their Big South start to four straight wins when they host Presbyterian College on Saturday at 6 p.m.
