WOMEN'S SOCCER ENTERTAINS COASTAL CAROLINA AND CSU

Carrying a seven-match unbeaten streak, Radford women's soccer returns to Cupp Memorial Stadium for a pair of Big South matchups against Coastal Carolina (Oct. 4/7:00) and Charleston Southern (Oct. 6/2:00). With 10 points, the Highlanders (7-2-1, 3-0-1 Big South) are currently tied for first in the league with Winthrop. The Chanticleers (5-6, 2-2) and Buccaneers (4-6-1, 2-2) sit in a four-way tie for sixth with six points.

Saturday's contest will have a special guest as Highlander great Melissa Gaitka Halpern '95 will be inducted into the Radford University Athletics Hall of Fame in a ceremony held prior to the contest versus Charleston Southern. At halftime, the 1994 Big South Player of the Year will be recognized with her fellow 2012 Hall of Fame classmates.

A LOOK AT RU: The Highlanders are coming off a pair of road wins at Presbyterian, 2-0, and UNC Asheville, 3-2, last week… Mary Wiley netted two goals in the win over the Bulldogs… Che' Brown made 10 saves over the weekend and with the shutout against the Blue Hose, she is one shy of second on the career charts… RU's triumph over the Bulldogs was the 300^th in program history…. Of the 300, 168 have come since Ben Sohrabi took over in 1996, including 47 since 2008… With the 3-0-1 start, Radford is undefeated after four league matches for the third straight season.

A LOOK AT CCU: The Chanticleers evened their league record with a pair of home shutouts against Liberty, 1-0, and Longwood, 2-0… All five victories this season have come by way of shutout… Kacey Kelley paces the squad with a team-best five goals and 10 points… Keeper Megan Spencer is second in the league with a 1.02 GAA and is tied for second with four clean sheets.

A LOOK AT CSU: The Buccaneers split at home last week, falling to Longwood, 2-0, before rebounding against Liberty, 3-2…. Toni Lashley leads CSU with a team-high six goals and 12 points… Caitlin Cody owns a 1.98 GAA and is tops in the league with 93 saves (8.45 per match).

THE SERIES: Radford is 5-8-2 against Coastal Carolina, winning three of the last four matchups, including a 2-0 victory in Conway last season… RU owns a 13-6-5 mark against the Buccaneers and is undefeated against CSU over the last 16 meetings.

LAST YEAR: In 2011, Radford enjoyed a successful “beach trip” blanking Coastal Carolina, 1-0, and Charleston Southern, 2-0… The victory over the Chanticleers was the Highlanders' first win in Conway in program history.
