LIBERTY RALLIES FOR 2-1 WIN OVER MEN'S SOCCER

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. – Sachem Wilson scored two goals in less than four minutes in the second half, lifting Liberty to a 2-1 win over Radford in Big South action on Tuesday night.

Michael Hutcheon scored in the 52nd minute to give the Highlanders (8-5-4, 6-2-1 Big South) a lead just after halftime, but Wilson's tallies in the 72nd and 75 minutes were the difference for the Flames (8-6-2, 6-1-2).

The match was played at a game time temperature of 39 degrees, along with sustained winds from 15-25 mph brought on by the remnants of Hurricane Sandy.

"This one was hugely disappointing," head coach Marc Reeves said.  "We didn't play as well as we wanted, and it's hard to win many games when you give up two in a short period of time.  Conditions were tough - but it was the same for both teams.  We need to be better on Saturday."

Liberty controlled possession over the first 45 minutes and had a 5-4 shot lead at halftime, before the action ramped up in the second half.

The Highlanders got a corner kick at the 51:45 mark to set up the first goal.  Jannik Eckenrode's service deflected off of a Liberty defender and found the feet of Hutcheon, who finished on a hard shot from just inside the goal box to give Radford the lead.  The goal was the first of Hutcheon's collegiate career.

A minute later, Chel Ho Park Kim got a look at goal and had his shot blocked by a Liberty defender to keep it a 1-0 lead for the Highlanders.

Liberty had a chance to tie the match four minutes later, when Blessing Tahouna had a break down the near side of the field and ripped a shot from just inside the 18 yard box – James Jordan got back defensively and got a piece of the shot, which rolled just wide.

Following Tahouna's opportunity, Radford had five shots and four corner kicks over the next 15 minutes, but couldn't add another goal.

The Flames got the equalizer in the 72nd minute when Tahouna passed ahead for Wilson, whose shot from 20 yards out got inside the far post to get Liberty on the board.

Wilson delivered again 3:47 later on another long strike.  This time, he ripped a shot from distance off of Tyler Bullock's pass from the middle, tucking it inside the top left corner for the game-winner.

Radford outshot Liberty 13-12, including a 9-7 tally in the second half.

Scott Sutarik made five saves in goal for the Flames, including a pair of stops during Radford's flurry of opportunities early in the second half.

Ryan Taylor had four saves for the Highlanders.

Radford wraps up the 2012 regular season on Saturday, hosting Winthrop at 6 p.m.
