WOMEN'S SOCCER SET FOR LONGWOOD IN BIG SOUTH SEMIFINAL

Following a 1-0 victory over Campbell in the Big South Quarterfinals, second-seeded Radford takes on third-seeded Longwood on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the second semifinal at Winthrop University's Eagle Field. The Highlanders (14-2-4) battle the Lancers (13-5-2), who advanced with a 2-1 victory in penalty kicks over No. 6 Liberty.

A LOOK AT RU: Freshman Asyia Mitchell's strike in the 80th minute lifted Radford to a thrilling 1-0 victory over Campbell on Saturday evening… The win extended Radford's school-record unbeaten streak to 15 and capped off the program's first undefeated season at Cupp Memorial Stadium (8-0-2)… It also marked the 12th shutout, matching the school record owned by the 1997 and 2011 squads… RU has allowed just one goal over the last eight matches… Che' Brown recorded her 11th shutout, tying Nyiesha Ford's mark posted in 1997… It was the 25th career clean sheet, one shy of Hall of Famer Peggy Poore's (1982-85) mark that has held up for 27 years… Brown currently ranks 15th in save percentage (.871) and 19th in GAA (0.62) in the NCAA… Rachel Conway, Julie Ruh'e and Kara Nay pace the offensive attack with six goals apiece… Nay dished out the assist on Mitchell's game winner… Mary Wiley has tallied a team-best seven assists.


A LOOK AT LU: In their first Big South Tournament, the Lancers needed penalty kicks to earn the program's first tournament victory, 2-1 over six-seeded Liberty… After playing to a 1-1 draw, Longwood defeated Liberty, 3-0, in the shootout… Kelsey Pardue tops the offensive with a team-best seven goals, six assists and 20 points… Five of her goals are game-winners, tied for tops in the league… Lindsey Ottavio has dished out five helpers to go along with three goals… Keeper Kyra Byron ranks third in GAA (0.80), save percentage (.826) and shutouts (8), while making 71 saves.

THE SERIES: Longwood owns a 5-3-1 lead in the series after the teams played to a scoreless draw on Oct. 18 at Cupp Stadium… This will be the first tournament matchup and first contest on a neutral field.

REGULAR SEASON: The teams played to a 0-0 draw, the first in this recent in-state rivalry… Che' Brown made six saves with three crucial ones in the second half… Her counterpart Kyra Byron stopped five shots, three in overtime.
 
TOURNAMENT HISTORY: The Highlanders started their defense of their 2011 Championship with a 1-0 win over Campbell…. RU won last year's title with an identical 1-0 victory over its 2012 first-round opponent, Campbell… Also defeated UNC Asheville in penalty kicks and Liberty 4-1 on its way to the program's fourth conference title… 16-11-5 all-time and 15-9-4 under Ben Sohrabi… 7-1-1 as the No. 2 seed, winning the 2002 and the 2008 championships… 4-5-2 in semifinals (0-2 in shootouts) and 1-1 in Rock Hill, S.C.

UP NEXT: The winner of this contest will play for the Championship against No. 1 High Point or No. 4 Winthrop, Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2:00 p.m. on ESPN3… The semifinals and championship are being held at Eagle Field on the campus of Winthrop University.
