HIGHLANDERS ADVANCE TO BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP, DEFEAT LONGWOOD, 2-0

BOX SCORE ROCK HILL, S.C.Sahar Aflaki and Stephanie Herb scored early second half goals as Radford defeated Longwood 2-0 in the second Big South Women's Soccer Semifinal on Friday evening from Eagle Field on the campus of Winthrop University.

The victory extends the Highlanders' (13-2-4) unbeaten streak to 16 matches and sends them to their second straight Big South Championship match and fifth overall. Radford will face the host and fourth seed Eagles on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. The match will be televised live on ESPN3.

Che' Brown made four saves to earn her 26th career shutout, tying Radford Hall of Famer Peggy Poore's (1982-85) mark that has held up for 27 seasons. It also marked the 12th of the season for the junior keeper and the 13th, for the squad, both new single-season records.

Aflaki made a run down the right side and directed the ball into the box. The ball found its way into the far corner of the net, giving the Highlanders a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute.

Three minutes later, Herb sent a 40-yard service into the box that caught Longwood's (13-6-2) keeper off her line and landed in the back net for a two-goal cushion. It was the defenders first collegiate goal.

Herb (pictured) also made a goal-saving play 10 minutes later when Lindsey Ottavio found her way around Brown, but a recovering Herb was able to make a sliding tackle on the ball and it safely rolled into Brown's hands.

The squads went into the half scoreless as the Highlanders held a 7-3 advantage in shots. Longwood's Kyra Byron made the only two save of the half, including a diving stop on Sydney Golden's  Ky. 20-yard free quick in the late in the 23rd minute.

Radford outshot Longwood, 16-14 led by Aflaki's three. Byron made three saves for the Lancers.
