HIGHLANDERS BRING HOME THREE INDIVIDIUAL TITLES AT VIRGINIA TECH


DAY 1 RESULTS

RADFORD, Va. –  Courtni PannellAimee Veatch and Vincent Wyatt each won individual titles on the first day of the Virginia Tech Challenge Friday evening at Rector Field House.
 
Pannell ran the third fastest time in Radford history and garnered a first-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.72. Veatch grabbed her seventh career individual victory in the weight throw with a mark of 18.10m / 59-04.75, 1.09m farther than the runner-up.
 
Following his school-record at Akron, reigning Big South Track Athlete of the Week Wyatt posted another victory in the 60m hurdles and was just off record pace at 7.97.  It was the third time in the history of the Big South an athlete ran a sub-8 second time – Wyatt now owns two of those.
 
Throws
Curtis Hodge racked up another runner-up showing on the men's side, throwing 17.77m / 58-03.75. 
 
Sprints
Lakei Crews clocked a 7.71 finals time to place seventh in the 60m dash. Joseph Betts recorded an eighth-place showing in the men's 200m with a time of 22.18.  Tehquin Warrick finished 10th in the same event with a 22.28. 
 
Jumps
Kayla Christian leaped to a personal-best 5.38m / 17-08.00 in the long jump to finish eighth.  On the men's side, Chris Henry won his flight and spanned a personal-best 6.80m / 22-03.75 to finish fourth overall.
 
The event wraps up tomorrow morning with the first event slated for 10 a.m.
