OLINGER SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR, MEN SECOND AT BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

RESULTS

BLACKSBURG, Va. –
Brett Olinger was named Big South Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Radford tallied seven all-conference performers, broke five school records and the men's team finished second in the team standings to finalize the 2012 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon.

A two-time all-academic selection a year ago, Olinger collected his first Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor and became the second athlete (Goran Nava, 2002) to acquire the award during indoor season.   Maggie Wissler also made the all-academic team on the women's side.

The men finished runner-up with 98 points, its best showing since 2008, while Liberty took the team crown for the 15th consecutive year and also won on the women's side.

All-Conference Performers/School Records
Justin Smith set a new school standard for the second time this season with his 16.76m / 55-00.00 shot put distance.  He finished runner-up for his second straight indoor all-conference award.

Nikki Roseberry earned her first indoor all-conference nod by placing third with a school-record tying 1.70m / 5-07.00 mark in the high jump.  The top three athletes recorded the 1.70m mark, but the tie breaker put Roseberry in third.

The men's 4x400m relay team consisting of Tehquin Warrick, Olinger, Allen Dooms and Kaise White set a new school record with a 3:14.73 and garnered a runner-up showing for the third straight year.

Freshman Vincent Wyatt took third-place and his first collegiate all-conference distinction with an 8.31 in the 60m hurdles.

Joseph Betts became the sixth all-conference performer for Radford on the final day with his 21.78, third-place showing in the men's 200m.

In the short sprints, Dooms surpassed his own 60m-dash school record with an 6.82 finals time to take third place. Warrick wrapped up the 400m in third place with a Top-3 time of 48.89.

Phillip Hovatter's 4,641-point total in the men's heptathlon also became a new school record, surpassing his 4,575 total from last year's championships.  He finished fourth overall in the event.  Hovatter would also compete in the long jump and record a 6.84m / 22-05.25 distance for a seventh-place finish.

White also ran a solid race and turned in a fourth-place showing 48.90 in the 400m.  In the women's 60m, Lakei Crews charted a seventh-place finish with a time of 7.74.

Eric Graves and Shalonda Mitchell each placed sixth in the 800m with times of 2:00.19 and 2:20.84, respectively.
