FRESHMEN SET SCHOOL RECORDS AT WAKE FOREST


DAY 1 RESULTS

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –
 Radford freshmen Joseph Betts and Vincent Wyatt broke the 100m and 110m hurdles school records and classmate Travis Hudson won his high jump section on the first day of the Wake Forest Open Friday.
 
Wyatt broke the school record by just over one second with his preliminary time of 14.27.  He also had the top time out of 45 competitors and will be the athlete to beat heading into the finals tomorrow.
 
Betts ran a 10.59 in the 100m to better the old record of 10.66, held by James Harris back in 2008.  Betts finished fourth in the event.  Allen Dooms also ran the third fastest time in Radford history (10.74) to finish 11th in the prelims.  Each athlete qualified for the finals.
 
Hudson cleared the bar at 1.97m / 6-05.50 and won his high jump section. 
 
Kaise White started off the outdoor season on the right foot, as he finished fifth in the 400m with a time of 48.43. 
 
Recording a seventh-place showing in the women's hammer throw was Aimee Veatch.  Veatch tossed 50.99m/167-03 in a field of 43 throwers.
 
Caroline Ratterree posted an 18:23.26 in the women's 5000m to garner a 10th-place showing overall.  On the men's side, Ryan Farnan grabbed 14th-place finish at 15:21.83.
 
Jamiecka Baker took third in her flight and 11th overall with a triple jump distance of 11.17m/36-07.75.
 
In the women's 100m, Kayla Christian and Lakei Crews crossed the line for back-to-back finishes.  Christian recorded a personal-best 12.37 and Crews clocked a 12.38. 
 
Sharee Fitzgerald and Desi Simmons finished back-to-back in the shot put with distances of 12.67m/41-07.00 and 12.43m/40-09.50.  The duo took 14th and 15th place, respectively.
