Highlanders Will Face Two Ranked Opponents

HONOLULU, Hawai'i --
Coming off a pair of wins at James Madison, Radford Softball traveled across the country and over the Pacific to take part in the Bank of Hawai'i Classic this weekend at Rainbow Wahine Softball Field.

The Highlanders (4-3) will take on host and No. 22 Hawai'i (12-0) on Friday at 11:00 pm EST, followed by contests versus UC Santa Barbara (6-111) and No. 20 Florida State (15-0) on Saturday at 3 and 5:00 p.m. Depending on its record, Radford will play in a semifinal game and either the consolation or championship contest on Sunday.

On Tuesday, the Highlanders swept in-state rival James Madison by the scores of 3-2 and 6-3. Freshman Micalah Sacre hit her first collegiate home run and senior Nichole Beall knocked in the game-winning run in game one. In the night cap, three Highlanders recorded two hits and Sacre earned the win in her first collegiate start.

Beall paces the offensive attack, batting .476 (10-21) with two home runs, four RBI and nine runs scores. She is also 5-5 in stolen bases. Sacre has knocked in a team-best six runs and is second on the squd with a .353 batting average. In the circle junior Jackie Jenkins is 2-0 with a 1.94 ERA and a save in 18.0 innings of work.

Hawai'i is off to its best start in school history. The Rainbow Wahine have been idle since going 5-0 at the Lousville Slugger Desert Classic, Feb. 17-19. The pitching staff of Stephanie Ricketts (7-0, 0.64) and Kaia Parnaby (5-0, 0.70) have combined for 79 strikeouts and six shutouts. The offense has outscored their opponents, 109-11. Jessica Iwata leads a quartet of .400 hitters with a .459 average (17-for-37), four doubles, one home run, nine runs scored, and 12 RBI.

UC Santa Barbara has won for of its last six after starting the season, 1-10. 
Jessica Soria tops the Gauchos' lineup and is hitting .345 (19-for-55) and has swiped a team-high five stolen bases. Shelby Wisdom (4-5) has made 12 appearances with five starts and struck out 63 batters with a  3.79 ERA in 61.0 innings pitched.

Florida State 
went 5-0 in last week's Citrus Classic. Tiffani Brown leads the Seminoles with a .353 average (18-for-51) and is tied for the team lead with 12 runs scored and has a team-high 15 stolen bases. The pitching staff  combined 1.09 ERA. Monica Perry is 6-0 with a 1.39 ERA in 40.1 innings. She leads FSU with 97 strike outs and held opponents to a .159 batting average. Freshman pitcher Lacy Waldrop (0.97 ERA) is 7-0 with three shutouts in 45.2 innings pitched.
