COSTELLO FIRES EIGHT SCORELESS, BASEBALL ROLLS PAST ASHEVILLE 9-0

RADFORD, Va.
Tyler Costello pitched eight shutout innings to stretch his scoreless streak to 26 straight innings, Jeff Kemp drove in four runs, and Radford claimed a 9-0 win over UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon.
 
Costello won his fourth straight (4-0), working into the eighth inning for the third time in as many starts.  He scattered seven hits, struck out three and retired 16 of the next 17 batters from the top of the first inning on. 
 
Costello only faced trouble with two outs in the sixth, when back-to-back hits by Billy Creighton and Ian Graham set up runners at second and third for he Bulldogs (12-12, 3-2 Big South) – Costello induced a line drive out on the next play to end the inning.

The streak of scoreless innings for Costello dates back to the fourth inning of his start on March 4 at UNC Greensboro.
 
Kemp raised his season RBI total to 29 in 23 games with a pair of two-run doubles.  His first came in the fifth, giving the Highlanders (13-10, 2-0) a 5-0 lead.  Kemp made it 9-0 for Radford with a two-out double in the eighth, finishing the game 2-for-5.
 
Zach Costello and Matt Hillsinger had two hits each – Hillsinger had a pair of RBIs, including a sacrifice fly to get Radford on the board in the first inning.  Matt Mack went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer (3) in the fourth, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.
 
Graham went 3-for-5 to lead Asheville – through two series games, Radford has outscored the Bulldogs 25-1.    Starter Brian Connolly suffered the loss (2-2), allowing three runs on five hits in four innings.
