2012 Highlights
Second-year team captain for the Highlanders ... 31st round selection (957 overall) of Los Angeles Angels in the MLB First Year Player Draft ... First Team All-Big South selection at SS ... First Team All-State selection (VaSID) ... When healthy, was Radford’s top offensive producer and top defensive player … Anchored the Big South’s top defense at shortstop and one of the nation’s leaders – Radford led country in fielding percentage during April 2012 when Kemp was playing every day … 48 RBIs in 47 games, 4th-Big South … Led Big South in triples (6) and ranked among nation’s top-10 when healthy … Missed 11 games late in the season after suffering a broken hand when he was hit by a pitch in the opener of the Presbyterian series (April 27) … Before missing time, was ranked in top-10 of most Big South offensive categories … Hit in each of his first six games of the season ... Went 7-for-13 in the Samford series (Feb. 17-19), including 6-for-8 in the final two games ... had five doubles in the series, including three in the game two win  (Feb. 18) ... Team captain in 2011 ... Smacked a two-out solo homer in his first at-bat of the season in a 3-for-5 game against Army (Feb. 18) ... Hit his second career grand slam in a rout of Army the next night (Feb. 19) ... Socked a first inning two-run homer against Towson (March  4) ... Had his third first inning home run of the season in and his second blast in as many games in a win over Fordham (March 5) ... Tripled home a run in the series opener against Hartford (March 12) ... Had a career-high five RBIs in a 4-for-4 performance that included two doubles in the series finale with Hartford (March 13) ... scored three times and walked twice ... Was 4-for-11 and drove in three runs in the CSU series (March 25-26) ... Scored twice, stole two bases and went 1-for-3 in the win over Virginia Tech (March 29) ... Went 2-for-4, walked and scored in the first VMI game (April 9) ... Missed the finale of the VMI series after a collision at short in the second game (April 10) ... Went 2-for-4, scored twice, and stole two bases on back-to-back pitches in the series opener against Winthrop (April 15) ... Went 3-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs in the series finale at UNC Asheville (April 23) ... went 4-for-10, drove in three runs and scored twice in the series ... Medical redshirt in 2010 following a shoulder injury sustained at the end of the 2009 season ... Hit .350 in six games as a first baseman/DH ... Baseball America Preseason All-Big South ... 2009 Highlights
2009 Big South Freshman of the Year; became the first frosh in Radford program history to earn the honor ... Collegiate Baseball / Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American ... Added to the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year award watch list in April; only Big South shortstop named to the initial award list ... Started his collegiate career with safeties in 18 of his first 19 games, including a 10-game hitting streak (16-of-19, .390) to begin the 2009 season ... Hit in either the two or three spot in each of Radford’s games ... Swatted a walk-off grand slam in the first game of a doubleheader at home against Canisius March 7, with the Highlanders trailing 3-2 in the ninth inning with one out ... Launched a three-run shot two at-bats later in the first inning of the second game with the Golden Griffins ... Piled up 10 RBI in the three-game sweep of Canisius ... Had his first four-hit game in a 4-for-5 showing, a win over Presbyterian on March 21 ... Logged time at second base in a doubleheader at Charleston Southern April 25 ... Drove in three runs in back-to-back Big South games May 2 against Gardner-Webb and May 14 at Liberty
