SOFTBALL FALLS AT NO. 10 TENNESSEE, 8-2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Radford jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held No. 10 Tennessee hitless through four innings, but an eight-run fifth powered the Lady Volunteers (32-9) to an 8-2 win over the Highlanders (21-11), Tuesday afternoon from Lee Stadium.
 
Radford grabbed a 1-0 lead on a one-out RBI single by senior Vicki Madden. Madden's bouncer up the middle plated freshman Micalah Sacre who was sitting on second a double the right center gap.

The Highlanders doubled their lead to 2-0 in the third when junior Ryndee Ruch dropped in a RBI single to right. The run was set up by a leadoff single by Nichole Beall and a one-out stolen base, her team-leading 19th of the season.
 
The Lady Vols threatened in the fourth drawing three two-out walks to load the bases, but junior Jackie Jenkinswho entered after the first two free passes induced a weak grounder to third, ending the threat.
 
After being no-hit for four innings, Tennessee exploded for eight runs, highlighted by a three-run inside the park home run by Lauren Gibson and a three-run long ball off the scoreboard by Cheyanne Tarango. The Volunteers sent 13 batters to the plate and recorded eight hits in the frame.
 
Sacre did not allow a hit in the first 3.2 innings, striking out two and walking four. Jenkins suffered the defeat as she surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits with two walks in 1.1 frames of relief.
 
Ivy Renfroe picked up the win in 4.2 of one-hit relief. She struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Tory Lewis and Raven Chavanne each registered two hits for the Lady Vols.
 
Radford returns to action tomorrow, April 11 with a doubleheader at Virginia. Game one is set for 5 p.m.
