BASEBALL TAKES SERIES FINALE FROM GARDNER-WEBB 10-4

BOX SCORE BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. Daniel Wright drove in four two-out runs, Mark Peterson allowed just one run in 6 1/3 innings in his start, and Radford took the finale of a three-game Big South set from Gardner-Webb, 10-4 on Sunday.
 
The Highlanders (26-20, 11-7 Big South) put together a 14-hit attack – all nine batters in the starting lineup had hits.   Five had two hits, including Wright who went 2-for-4.  Brett Mollenhauer went 2-for-3, scored three times and walked twice.  Patrick Marshall had a hit, scored twice and walked twice.
 
Gardner-Webb (27-22, 9-9) had 10 players with a hit apiece.   Henry Rundio scored twice and walked.
 
Peterson earned his fourth win (4-1) – he struck out a pair of batters and walked two, allowing five hits.  He held Gardner-Webb at bay after the Runnin' Bulldogs scored in the first inning when Scott Coleman knocked in Rundio from second, giving them the game's first run for the third time in the series.
 
The Highlanders tied it at 1-1 in the second on Westyn Baylor's RBI hit, scoring Marshall after he doubled to lead off the inning.  In the third, Radford took its first multi-run advantage of the series when Matt Mack knocked in Mollenhauer, giving Radford a 2-1 lead.  The Highlanders made it a 3-1 game on a bases-loaded balk by right-hander Beau Hilton.
 
Hilton took the loss (4-3) – he threw 62 pitches in three innings and allowed three runs on five hits.
 
Wright singled home a run in the fifth inning with two outs to extend the lead to 4-1, then highlighted a six-run sixth with his bases-loaded two-out double that brought all three runners home and made it a 10-1 lead for the Highlanders.
 
Gardner-Webb got a couple of late RBIs by Dusty Quattlebaum, who knocked home two runs in the ninth.
 
Radford plays five games in five days starting on Tuesday when the Highlanders host James Madison at 6 p.m.
