Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.Bernardo Ulmo scored in the 81st minute, propelling Radford to a 1-0 win over Wake Forest in men's soccer exhibition action on Tuesday night.

Ulmo tallied the game's only strike on a through ball from Matt Janssen – a deflection on the play found Ulmo on the left side of the area and he finished to give the Highlanders the lead.

“Preseason games are all about improving as a group and trying to see which players can help in what positions," head coach Marc Reeves said.   "We got to see a lot of guys play tonight and it was good game. I thought we defended fairly well against a very talented Wake Forest team. We need to continue to work hard through the rest of preseason and certainly work on better possession of the ball in midfield and the front half of our team.”

The Demon Deacons outshot Radford 13-12, including 9-3 in the first half with four chances on frame.
Ryan Taylor was equal to the task and made saves on quality chances to keep Wake off the board.  Ramzi Dridi also had a pair of chances on goal for the Highlanders in the first half, but the teams went scoreless to the break.

In the second half the Highlanders outshot Wake 5-4, building up to the late Radford goal.

The two sides played 110 total minutes of game time, adding an extra 20 minutes to the end of regulation time.  In the extra period
many newcomers saw time, leading Radford to a 4-0 tally in shots.  The Highlanders had chances on frame, including a shot from Jambaar Stills that forced Wake keeper Alec Ferrell to make a tough save.  Freshman Sergio Arzubiaga also had a chance late - he rang the post with the added time running down.

Stills had a game-high four shots for Radford.

Radford concludes preseason play on Saturday at Cupp Stadium against James Madison at 6 p.m.
