MEN'S SOCCER HEADS TO HIGH POINT FOR WEEKEND TOURNAMENT ACTION

LIVE STATS (both Friday and Sunday's matches)

Radford continues its streak of four straight matches away from home to start the season, as the Highlanders travel to High Point for the Flash Gordon Motors Invitational on Friday and Sunday.

Playing for the second year in a row at High Point's tournament, the Highlanders (0-0-1) will face Northern Kentucky at 4 p.m. on Friday, and Adelphi at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

"We are excited to again attend the High Point Tournament, the soccer staff and facilities there make it an excellent weekend for our team,” head coach Marc Reeves said.  “We have two very tough opponents – we will need to prepare well first for a strong NKU team and then a quick turnaround for Sundays game versus a well-coached Adelphi side."

PREVIEWING THE HIGHLANDERS

This weekend is the second on the pitch in regular season play for the Highlanders.  Radford opened up its season with a scoreless tie at UMBC last Saturday night – however, the Highlanders owned a lopsided advantage in shots (16-7) and scoring opportunities.

Saturday's tie marked the fourth positive result in a season opener in as many years for Radford.

"We have had a solid week of practice and continue to work on both the positives and improvements needed from the UMBC game,” Reeves said.
"It's still so early in the season and our group must continue to have a strong daily drive to improve regardless of how results may unfold."

The Highlanders enter the weekend as the only team in the Big South that hasn't surrendered a goal – fifth-year senior Ryan Taylor made three saves against UMBC last Saturday to earn his ninth career shutout and move into fifth on Radford's career list.

Radford used a young lineup in Saturday's match – six players made their debuts in a Highlander kit, and 10 of the 16 players used were underclassmen.

THE MATCHUPS

Friday's match between Radford and NKU (0-2) is the first meeting between the programs – NKU, a suburban Cincinnati school, is playing in its first transitional season as a Division I member as part of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Adelphi (0-2) and Radford meet for the second time on Sunday – the Highlanders won the last meeting 1-0 in September of 2007.  Adelphi, which competes in Division II in all other sports, is a Division I program (Independent) only in men's soccer.

UP NEXT

Radford continues its non-conference slate away from home next Saturday (Sept. 8) with a 7 p.m. match at East Tennessee State.
