MEN'S SOCCER LOOKS TO CONTINUE STRONG PLAY AT GARDNER-WEBB

LIVE STATS | BIG SOUTH NETWORK VIDEO

Following two positive results against a pair of tough opponents, Radford continues Big South action on Saturday night with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Gardner-Webb.

The Highlanders (3-2-3, 1-0 Big South) opened up league play with a 2-1 home win over Campbell last Saturday, handing the Camels only their second defeat this season.   On Tuesday night, Radford forced a 1-1 draw with Elon – the Phoenix are ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire South Region rankings and are receiving votes in the national Top-25.

Radford looks to remain unbeaten in conference play against a winless Gardner-Webb (0-7-1, 0-0-1) side – both teams are playing their second Big South game.

HIGHLANDER NOTES

Radford is looking to start league play unbeaten for the first time since 2010, when the Highlanders went 3-0 to begin the Big South slate.

Tuesday was the fifth overtime game for the Highlanders this season – it's the most overtime matches for a Radford team since the 2000 season, when the eventual Big South champions played in six overtime games.  Seven overtimes in a single season is the school record (1995, '98, '99).

Bernardo Ulmo will look to continue his stellar start to the season – Ulmo has six goals, second in the Big South.  He's responsible for each of the Highlanders' last three tallies.

THE MATCHUP

Gardner-Webb, which seeks its first win of the season on Saturday, has been successful against Radford recently.  The Runnin' Bulldogs have a 5-2-1 all-time record against the Highlanders, including an unbeaten mark since joining the Big South in 2008.

The schedule has been very difficult for Gardner-Webb this season, including three matches against nationally-ranked opponents (No. 1 UNC, No. 20 Furman, No. 23 Dayton).   On Tuesday, N.C. State (which was ranked in the Top-25 last week) beat the Runnin' Bulldogs 2-0 in Raleigh.

UP NEXT

Radford plays its second league game in a row on Wednesday and third straight away from home against new Big South member Longwood – match time is 7 p.m.
