RADFORD HOSTS GARDNER-WEBB ON RU AMY STRONG & BREAST CANCER AWARENESS NIGHT

Currently on a school-record 16-match home unbeaten streak, Radford women's soccer closes out its three-game homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 16 hosting Gardner-Webb. It will be Amy Strong & Breast Cancer Awareness night at Cupp Stadium when the Highlanders (10-1-1, 6-0 Big South) and Runnin' Bulldogs (3-10- face off at 7:00 p.m.

The Highlanders will supporting breast cancer awareness and also honoring an alumni, Amy Nash Touchet ('02), who is battling stomach cancer. Radford will be selling RU Amy Strong  bracelets or collecting monetary donations that will go to a fund created by Touchet's former teammate Susan Melanson Lubic ('02).

LAST TIME OUT: Radford extended its season-long six-game winning streak with a 4-0 win over UNC Asheville on Saturday night. The win was ignited by a three-goal surge late in the first half… Freshman Britney Kendall, junior Kara Nay and senior Julie Ruh'e each recorded a goal and an assist during over a 3:22 span that began in the 35th minute… Kendall and Nay scored 34 seconds apart… Senior Sahar Aflaki added an early second half goal for the final tally… Seniors Che' Brown and Lauren Markey combined on the shutout with five saves.
 
A LOOK AT RU: Kendall became the second straight Highlander to earn weekly honors, being named Big South Attacking Player of the Week after tallying two goals and two assists last week… The Highlanders are receiving votes in the NSCAA Southeast Region Poll for the second straight week… Radford is the only remaining undefeated team in Big South play and has matched its best league start of 6-0 also recorded in 1999 and 2011… Radford's 10-1-1 start is the second best in program history… RU started 11-1 in 1993… It was the team's four straight clean sheet, eight of the season and 44th  since 2010… With the win, RU improved their home winning (8) and unbeaten streaks (16/14-0-2)… The unbeaten streak is a new school record… The win extended the Highlanders' regular season league Big South streak to 17 (13-0-4)… Following the victory over Asheville, Radford, is 23-3-5 in Big South regular season home games (since 2007), including 19-1-3 the last four seasons… Brown leads the league in in save pct. (.900) and GAA (0.47) and enters the week ranked seventh and 13th in the NCAA respectively…Entering the week, RU's defense ranks second in save percentage (.914) and third in GAA (0.40) and ninth in shutout percentage (0.667)… 13 different Highlander have scored a goal this season… Aflaki leads Highlanders with five goals and 11 points… Sydney Golden has a team-best four assists… RU is on a streak of allowing two or fewer goals in a game over the last 31 matches and 44 of the last 46… Dating back to the 2011 Big South championship game, the Highlanders have allowed just six goals (21 matches) to league foes, 17 of those matches have resulted in clean sheets… Highlanders have not allowed a goal to a Big South opponent in last nine home games (eight regular season & one tournament) and the last 872:35; High Point is the last team to score (Big South opener – 9/20/12)… RU has surrendered one goal at home over the last 1115:55 and just four since the start of last season (1509:22/16 matches).
 
THE BULLDOGS: Gardner-Webb has dropped its last two contests and seven of its last eight… The Bulldogs lone win over that stretch was an 1-0 road win at Campbell on Oct. 5… Shelby Hooe leads the GWU offense with five goals, four assists and 14 points, all team bests… Meagan Reynolds has dished out three assists… Amy Schmitt has played every minute in goals with a 2.01 GAA, 82 saves and a .739 save percentage.

THE SERIES: The Highlanders lead the series, 5-2-1 after earning a 1-0 road win last season… Radford has won the last two matchups and is 3-1 at home against Gardner-Webb… The Bulldogs lone win was a 1-0 victory in the first round of 2010 Big South Tournament… The last three meetings and four of the last five have resulted in a 1-0 result.
