2013 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE: SHEILA BRANCH TURPIN '80

On Oct. 18, 2013, Radford University inducted five former Highlander Student-Athletes into the Athletics Hall of Fame during a dinner and ceremony held in the College of Business and Economic's multipurpose room. Let's meet women's basketball standout Sheila Branch.

Starting every game of her collegiate career, Sheila Branch was the second Highlander women's basketball Student-Athlete to reach 1,000 points. Graduating as the program's all-time leader in points (1,197) and rebounds (679), Branch was the squad's leading scorer (16.9 ppg) and rebounder (8.2 rpg) during her junior campaign (1978-79), a season which also included a career-best 36 points against Wake Forest.

A three-time all-state selection, Branch was an integral part of teams that won 61 contests and sported a .670 winning percentage during her four-year career, which culminated with a 1980 Division II State Championship. Branch, a 1980 graduate, earned her masters degree from Radford a year later in 1981.

A health, physical education and driver education teacher at Liberty High School the past 32 years, Sheila Turpin has also served as the school's Driver Education Coordinator for over 20 years. Earning several Seminole District Coach of the Year honors, Turpin has been the head coach for the basketball (22 years), softball (9) and volleyball (5) squads.
