AFLAKI STRIKES TWICE AS HIGHLANDERS TOP CAMPBELL ON THE ROAD, 2-0

BOX SCORE

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Senior Sahar Aflaki scored a goal in each half and Radford's defense put forth another stifling effort in a 2-0 road shutout at Campbell on a muggy Wednesday evening from Eakes Athletics Complex.

Along with Aflaki's fourth collegiate multi-goal game, the Highlanders (7-1-1, 3-0-0 Big South) held the Camels (4-6-0, 0-3-0) to just nine shots with only two of them coming inside the 18. Senior Che' Brown made four saves to earn her third shutout of the season and 30th of her career.

The win extended Radford's Big South unbeaten streak to 14 matches (10-0-4) and improved to 9-1-2 in league regular-season road games since 2011. It also was the first road win in the Creek since 1992.

Aflaki's first goal in the 11th minute staked Radford to a 1-0 lead.
Her third goal of the season came from 22 yards out as she finished it over the keeper following a feed from fellow senior Rachel Conway. Despite consistent offensive pressure, the Highlanders were unable to tack on any more scores in taking a slim lead into halftime.

Aflaki's second strike of the match came in the 53rd minute, doubling the Highlanders' lead and giving them some breathing room on her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Following a service into the box, Aflaki, in some traffic, blasted a low shot into the left side after a pair of her teammates shots were blocked.

They would continue to dominate possession, stringing several passes together, but were unable to add to the lead as they hit the post and had a ball bounce off the underneath of the crossbar and not cross the line.

In all, they registered 20 shots, marking the third straight Big South contest with 20-plus shots. Aflaki charted a game-best five shots.

Radford concludes its three-game road swing at Longwood on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m
