RADFORD, Va. – After a strong team showing in the Golf Galaxy VCU Shootout two weeks ago, the Radford men's golf team heads to The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. for Saturday's 18-hole Big South Preview.
Joining the Highlanders will be three conference foes: High Point, Gardner-Webb and Campbell. The four-team match gives each golfer a chance to practice on the course where April's 2014 Big South Men's Golf Championship will be held.
Leading RU to a third-place team finish at Hermitage Country Club in Manakin-Sabot, Va. was Callum Tarren. By firing two sub-par rounds, the senior posted a fifth-place finish at 3-under-par 213 (76-67-70). Redshirt junior Ryan Rettberg had his career-low tournament finish, shooting 1-over-par 217 (74-73-70) to tie for 15th place.
Conner Hayden tied for 21st at 3-over-par 219 (75-71-73). Right behind him at 4-over-par 220 (75-71-74) was Tanner Carbaugh in 25th. Freshman Nick Brediger tied for 51st at 228 (79-73-76). All five will be in action Saturday for the Highlanders, who were 59th in the nation in last week's Golfstat rankings.
In addition, the women's golf teams from Campbell, High Point, Gardner-Webb and Radford will also compete in their own event on the same day. All golfers will tee off at noon in a shotgun start.
