LIVE STATS

RADFORD, Va. - The nonconference portion of the schedule is in the books, and Saturday the Radford men's soccer team turns its attention to Big South foes for the remainder of the 2013 season. The Highlanders open league play at 6:00 p.m. hosting Gardner-Webb at Cupp Stadium.

THE SERIES: Radford and Gardner-Webb are playing for the 36th time with the Highlanders holding a 15-13-7 advantage in the series. RU owns a three-game unbeaten streak over the Runnin' Bulldogs, including a sweep last year in both the regular season matchup at GWU, 6-1, and in the Big South Tournament quarterfinals, 2-0. The two teams fought to a scoreless tie in the 2011 season.

THE LAST TIME OUT: RU finished its non-league schedule with a scoreless tie against East Tennessee State last Sunday. The Highlanders currently stand at 3-3-2 on the season.

THE RUNNIN' BULLDOGS: GWU enters Saturday's game with a 4-4-1 overall and a 1-1 record in the Big South. The Bulldogs are coming off a tie (1-1) with North Carolina State on Tuesday. Prior to that, Gardner-Webb lost 1-0 decisions back-to-back to nationally-ranked opponents, Furman and Coastal Carolina.

THE HIGHLANDERS: Defense - Radford's defense has given up just 32 shots on goal for the season, and Dane Wilson has posted his first two career shutouts in goal in two of the last three games. The back line is led by Matt Janssen and Jo Vetle Rimstad and has been strong in limiting opponent opportunities.

Offense: The Highlanders outshot ETSU 23-12, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Joe Mayer, who leads Radford with five goals, 12 points, and two game-winning goals, managed a team-high four shots, along with Ramzi Dridi. Jamie Summers ranks second on the team with seven points on the season. He leads the team with three assists along with Dario Redondo.

BIG SOUTH OPENERS: Radford is unbeaten in its last five league openers (4-0-1), including 3-0 under Marc Reeves.
